DB Schenker
DB Schenker goes the extra mile

DB Schenker spans air, sea and land, offering a comprehensive range of integrated logistics and global supply chain management services tailored to the specific needs of a wide range of customers

From freight forwarding services to sophisticated logistics and supply chain management services, DB Schenker has made itself a market leader in its field and continues to expand its presence around the world. With sales of 18 billion euros in 2007, more than 90,000 employees and over 2,000 company locations in all the important economic regions of the globe, DB Schenker stands for the transport and logistics activities of Deutsche Bahn.

Getting ahead together
DB Schenker’s key objectives for China are clear and simple: to create an environment of teamwork across China with a strong focus on operational excellence. For this purpose, the company invests in people development and never loses sight of its mission, which is to provide innovative, cost efficient and effective integrated logistics solutions.

With a very strong base of SMEs as well as multi-national companies in Europe and the US, DB Schenker is specialised in industries such as electronics, retail/fashion, pharmaceuticals, and automotive. Further target markets are emerging markets such as Russia and some African and Latin American countries as well as verticals such as luxury goods, wine, and aero parts.

DB Schenker provides a vast array of logistics services tailored to its customers’ needs, among them the specialised team of DB SCHENKERsportsevents. As the official freight forwarding and customs clearance exclusive supplier of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, DB Schenker’s team just recently demonstrated its professionalism in managing the mega event.

Going places
DB Schenker’s global presence has expanded considerably. The Hong Kong office was opened in 1966. In the late 1970s, the company entered mainland China as one of the first major international forwarders. DB Schenker now has offices and logistics facilities in 35 cities all over China with about 4,300 people working on advanced logistics solutions.

In 2007, DB Schenker was a founding member of the Hong Kong RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) Centre, which focuses on bringing RFID adoption to the Pearl River Delta. DB Schenker is exploring and developing RFID-based transport and logistics solutions in close cooperation with its customers. The company also offers the related DB SCHENKERsmartbox product, a GPS (Global Positioning System) telematic device in form of sensor technology. The device consists of a temperature and humidity logger, a vibration and shock sensor as well as a door alarm to detect unauthorised intrusion. It enables customers to track the location of their goods in real-time in a world map scenario. This device is currently in use in selected DB Schenker ocean and rail freight shipments, significantly enhancing container security.

Commitment to the community
DB Schenker doesn’t lose sight of its commitments to the community. The company is actively involved in a wide range of volunteer programmes and received the Caring Company Award for the fifth time last February. In 2008, special focus was set on events for children from poor families, including an ‘Olympic Bus Tour’ – a sightseeing tour combined with a dinner, the ‘DB Schenker Olympics with Kids’ – a sports event, and the ‘DIY Cookies Day’, where children, together with staff volunteers, baked cookies to sell inside the company to raise funds for the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Children Development Fund.
